Death Grips is an experimental hip hop group from Sacramento, California, formed in 2010. The group consists of rapper/vocalist Stefan Burnett, known by his stage name MC Ride, drummer and producer Zach Hill, and co-producer Andy Morin (often erroneously referred to as Flatlander, which is another name Death Grips use for their music production as a band).〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Suspicious Minds - The Resolute Mission Of Death Grips )〕 The band's music has been described as combining hip hop, industrial music, and noise music, and they have been described as "a truly important band of the twenty-first century".〔(【引用サイトリンク】title="Death Grips: "There's a lot of recycling and destruction in the making of our music"" )
They released the mixtape ''Exmilitary'' in April 2011, followed by two studio albums in 2012, ''The Money Store'' in April, and ''No Love Deep Web'' in October, as well as a third album in November 2013, titled ''Government Plates''. Their releases have received positive reviews from music critics all around, including ''The Money Store'' placing 9th in Pitchfork's Best Albums of 2012 〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Death Grips' Scores )〕 and ''Government Plates'' placing at 43 on Spin's 50 Best Albums of 2013 list.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Drake, Nothing Was the Same (OVO/Young Money/Cash Money/Republic) - SPIN's 50 Best Albums of 2013 )
The group announced their supposed "disbanding" on July 2, 2014,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Death Grips - Timeline Photos - Facebook )〕 but denied that they ever actually disbanded in the first place two months later.〔https://web.archive.org/web/20141210051214/https://twitter.com/bbpoltergiest〕 On February 13, 2015, the group posted a new rehearsal video on their YouTube channel, suggesting a future tour. The video contained the first four tracks from ''The Powers That B's'' second disc, ''Jenny Death'', and the first nine seconds of "Lock Your Doors," from their sophomore album, ''No Love Deep Web''. On March 19, 2015, the group posted on Facebook that they "might make some more" music. On March 24, 2015, the band announced a world tour, and posted North American dates for it on their Facebook page. On October 21, 2015, they have announced on Facebook that they would be recording and releasing their fifth official studio album titled ''Bottomless Pit'', along with unveiling unreleased footage from 2013 of famed late actress Karen Black reciting dialogue from a film that Zach Hill was working on at the time, months before her passing in August of that year.〔https://www.facebook.com/deathgripz/posts/1043779955667183〕
